About me

I’m not a career politician. I was born on the Isle of Man and went to St Ninian’s. Like a lot of young Manx people who wanted to study science, I had to leave the Island to do it. I went off to university in 1999 and spent the next eighteen years across. I began my career in the UK scientific civil service in 2004, where I also gained my MSc and PhD.

I came home in 2017 to help care for my mum, who had been diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer. She passed away later that year. Coming back to the Island in those circumstances changed my plans, but it also reminded me how much the Isle of Man had always been home while I was accross. Thae same year I moved home, I founded Taxa Genomics, the biotech business I still run today. In 2020, I volunteered to set up the Island’s COVID testing laboratory, and in 2021 I served on the Government’s Emergency Advisory Group. Both experiences taught me a lot about how the Island responds under pressure, what we do well, and where we need to do better. My plan, should Onchan decide to elect me, is to stand back from my company, appoint my replacement, but stay involved in Taxa Genomics as the Chief Scientist on the Board of Directors.

Outside work, I’ve represented the Isle of Man at two Commonwealth Games in rifle shooting (Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018) and have also competed for Great Britain at the European Championships. One of my most prized posessions is the Certificate I received at the Gold Cost Commonwealth Games in 2018 for achieving a Top 10 placing. Sport at International level taught me discipline, and the kind of success that consistency under pressure can produce. That philosophy has led my career for the last 20 years, my company for the last 10 years, and I hope to continue that philosophy forward within the Isle of Man Political system.

I’m raising my family in Onchan, and this is home.
