Hospital waiting lists
Manx Care publishes waiting list figures once a month but they're buried on the Government website in a format that is hard for patients to find, and even harder to make sense of. This page shows the kind of dashboard that, if elected, I will push to be created and updated on a monthly basis so we can see exactly how the waiting lists are going.
This mock-up uses real data from January 2026-July 2026 and I suppose, really, it could be classed as "AI slop" as I 100% used Claude Code to get this up and running instead of coding it myself like someone with a PhD in computational biology should.... In any case, I hope it's useful in some way just with this basic dataset.
Figures as at 1 July 2026, the most recent that I retrieved from the Government website.
- People waiting
- 20,876
- across all three pathway stages
- Since May 2026
- ▼ 186
- previous published figures
- Since Jan 2026
- ▲ 616
- earliest figures I've captured
- Over Manx Care's own 17-week standard
- 25 of 48 lists
- by median wait
Longest median wait: Paediatric Neurology (outpatient) at 121 weeks — that's the typical wait, so half of those patients have been waiting longer.
How the lists have changed
Total people waiting at each stage, using Manx Care's published totals. Note the scales differ.
Manx Care published no figures for June 2026 — the break in the line is a gap in their data, not a fall to zero.
Referral to first outpatient appointment
17,710 waiting
Decision to treat to treatment (daycase)
2,740 waiting
Decision to treat to treatment (inpatient)
426 waiting
Look up a specialty
Pick a list to see how many people are on it and how long they're typically waiting. Flagged points (▲) have a note — see below the chart.

Every list, July 2026
Change is against May 2026. Medians in red are over Manx Care's own interim standard of 17 weeks for each stage.

Things to watch
Nothing flagged at the moment.
What Manx Care doesn't tell you
- Only a median. Half of patients wait longer than the median. There is no figure for how many have waited over 18, 26 or 52 weeks, or for the longest wait.
- Hidden lists. The published totals are larger than the specialties listed — by 1,138 people in the latest figures. Those patients are on lists that aren't named.
- Missing months. No figures were published for June 2026.
- No activity. Nothing on how many people joined or left each list, so a falling number could mean treatment — or removal.
- Stage waits only. Outpatient and treatment waits are counted separately. A patient's real referral-to-treatment wait is the sum, plus the untracked gap between.
